Frequently Asked Questions

What does inclusivity mean to FRC?

At Fierce Renewal, inclusion goes beyond gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, economic status, religion, and/or disability. Inclusion is not just about accepting differences; inclusion is about ensuring a safe space where everyone feels they can be themselves and are all valued for what they bring into the room. This is an important value to us at Fierce Renewal in both our personal and professional lives and strive to show up authentically in the space with you. ALL are welcome at FRC.

When is the right time to start therapy?

Starting therapy is a very personal choice for every individual. Knowing when to see a therapist can be challenging at times as life ebbs and flows. We often see individuals/couples seek therapy in a reactive state in response to a current or past traumatic or major life event, however, there are many reasons to participate in therapy that may get overlooked or minimized.

Some of those reasons may be managing daily stress; social and societal challenges; difficulty regulating emotions; you’ve noticed your normal coping skills don’t feel helpful. Other reasons may be to improve your relationship with yourself or others; you’re struggling to reach your goals or wanting to increase your self-awareness. You may also seek therapy while going through a big life transition whether that be a new job, a move, becoming a parent, etc. Additionally, therapy holds space for all forms of grief. These forms may look like the loss of a loved one, a new diagnosis, managing chronic illness, the ending of a job or relationship, etc.

Whatever reason has brought you to exploring this page is all the reason you need to start. Ultimately, there isn’t a wrong answer to this question as the right time will always be when you decide it is.

How can I find time in my busy schedule for therapy?

Oftentimes it is when we are at our busiest that we may need dedicated time just for us. At Fierce Renewal we do our best to accommodate a variety of scheduling needs with morning, afternoon, and evening options available.

What is a licensed professional counselor?

You may notice in your search for a therapist that there are a lot of different titles among us - at Fierce Renewal, we both are licensed professional counselors in the state of South Carolina. This means that we both completed a CACREP-accredited graduate school program, passed nationally certified board exams, completed 1500 hours of supervised work, and have had 5+ years of experience just to get our licenses. We are also required to engage in 40 hours of continuing education every two years to remain up to date on ethics, laws, trainings, etc. that enable us to be our best professional selves. We take a lot of pride in our specialty, so please feel free to ask us any additional questions about how we became LPCs.

What should I expect from the consultation call?

We offer a free 15-minute telehealth consultation call to prospective clients with a clinician of your choosing. Ahead of the call you will receive forms that both protect your privacy and allow you an opportunity to share what brings you to therapy at this time. We will briefly talk about what you have been experiencing, we’ll share a little bit about ourselves and our approach to the therapeutic relationship, and do our best to ensure that we feel like a good fit for your needs. Lastly, we will discuss the next steps of scheduling, payment, and paperwork. Overall, this is a great time to ask us questions or share concerns you may have about starting therapy!

What should I expect for the intake session?

If you schedule a consultation with us, we will be happy to discuss this further, but if you’re ready to schedule an intake session - here’s what to expect. We will send all of our intake and practice forms to you through our client portal via Simple Practice which you receive full access to once you schedule an appointment. We ask that you complete it all 48 hours prior to your appointment so we have time to review everything and make sure our mutual bases are covered.

On the day of your appointment, we’ll send you a text link from Ivy Pay to add a card on file that we will use for payment of sessions. We encourage you to arrive at the office a few minutes early to allow for finding the building, parking, taking a deep breath, and entering the lobby/waiting room where we’ll come out to greet you at the start of your session. From there, we’ll walk you back to our office and get started!

If you meet with us virtually, we recommend downloading the Simple Practice telehealth app to make the session run smoothly. There will be a virtual waiting room, and we’ll begin the session at the designated start time.

Do you take insurance? What is a Super Bill?

We are currently not in-network with any insurance companies due to our preferences with how to provide therapeutic care. However, oftentimes people have more out-of-network benefits than they realize when it comes to mental health! We recommend prospective clients who would like to utilize their insurance to call the number on the back of their insurance card and ask the following questions of your insurance representative:

Does your plan include “out-of-network” coverage for mental health?

What is your annual deductible for mental health benefits?

What is your co-insurance? (What percentage does the plan cover?)

Is there a limit on the number of sessions your plan will cover per year?

It is also helpful to find out from your insurance representative if they accept Super Bills. Super Bills are out-of-network reimbursement forms that can be submitted to your coverage provider for potential reimbursement of our sessions. Fierce Renewal clinicians can provide these to you upon your request. We appreciate this article from another practice that explains Super Bills further: How to use a super bill for potential reimbursement for therapy — Revive Counseling and Consulting - Online Counseling in Louisiana

What forms of payment do you accept?

We utilize Ivy Pay, a HIPAA compliant billing platform, that allows our clients to pay via credit/debit cards as well as most HSA and FSA cards. Our online system takes payment via anything that acts like a credit/debit card so most HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask our clients to cancel AT LEAST 24 hours in advance to avoid fees. If a client cancels within the 24-hour window before their appointment, we do charge the card on file for the full session fee. This is all explained in your informed consent documentation. This is a strict policy so that we can mutually respect one another's time.
